About
The Society
A
Multidisciplinary Medical Society
In
1972, a group of surgeons began meeting at regular
intervals to discuss issues and concerns regarding the
treatment of breast cancer. They came from many
institutions and frequently differed in their points of
view, but shared a common interest in promoting and
improving the quality of breast cancer care.
The
New York Metropolitan Breast Cancer Group was incorporated
as a multidisciplinary society in 1972. Members are from
hospitals and medical schools in the tri-state area. In
1976 there were 54 members and today there are more than
250. Membership is well represented by surgical oncology,
radiation oncology, medical oncology, radiology,
pathology, oncology nursing and psychology.
There
are quarterly scientific meetings and an annual full day
educational symposium featuring important current research
developments. The NYMBCG, Inc. provides a forum for
discussion, exchange of ideas and fraternization for its
members. Annual dues are collected and include all
quarterly meetings and the full day symposium.
